And there *is* an alternative for the Libre/Open/GNUOffice package, called LaTex. This release is for those who need an high-quality typesetting solution without non-sense. LinuxBBQ “Latex” – wrapped in XFCE4.10 – comes with Lyx, texmaker and Dia pre-installed (containing the basic and recommended modules), as well as the zotero/qnotero/gnote/iceweasel combo for reference/citation management and the Zim desktop wiki. Sounds like work, doesn’t it.

OK boys. I am interested.
What is your LaTeX distro? I hope Texlive2012.
It’s the bundle Texmaker and Lyx, it should work well enough for most users. If you think something is missing on the ISO, let me know and I will include it in the next spin (provided it doesn’t burst the 700MiB limit)
cool man. Recently started using LaTeX and love it. Been kicking it around for awhile, and am kicking myself for not learning it earlier. I’m actually bummed I’m in my last class at school. It would have made things so much easier. Haven’t used texmaker yet. Been using Gummi, which I like and is suitable functionality wise for me for what I’m using it for.
Anyway, cool and creative idea for a distro.
Thanks drew! It was a tough decision which of the LaTeX packages to add, and I went for Lyx – though yes, I remember having used gummi, too. For what it worth, LaTeX is very rewarding and deserves much more attention than ‘the usual suspects in text editing’. A pity it’s not taught at schools like the usage of Office packages (at least not that I know of), because it can really make things easier, especially in higher education and when coupled with one’s own methods of ref. management
