The team is proud to present “Trollinger”, a LinuxBBQ flavour with LXDE as desktop environment and Openbox as window manager. “Trollinger” is best suited for tinkerers, fetishists, bachelors, alcoholics and those who are not afraid of Debian Sid. If you are searching for a full-featured, bloated, shiny spin, please move on: If you use “Trollinger” your wife will leave you and innocent kitteh will end up as shashlik or cevapcici. Back to topic: the base edition comes with small memory footprint and works well on older hardware (686 instruction set required). Kernel 3.7-1-towo, roasted with love, LXDE 4+ on top, garnished with Openbox 3.5, PCManFM as File Destroyer, Iceweasel to browse your favourite memes, Leafpad to write ransom letters, and Deadbeef as noise player. Still with me? Download!

Nice release. Very polished and lightweight. I installed it on my usb using unetbootin and worked live on my netbook. Very nice only using about 100 MB (including lxtask). I would like to use this as my only OS on my netbook. How do I proceed? Use the install BBQ option given and then the installation GUI would be very similar to other distros (such as peppermintos, bodhi or mint)?
Thanks a lot.
I will ask about this on community forum as well.

Hello and thank you for your post!
Yes, the installer works like the one in LinuxMint (LMDE). It would find other OS and show them in the partitioning screen. There you select the destination and right-click, then you can assign this partition to be root (/) directory (where the system puts all files) and if you wish – optionally – a separate /home partition if you prefer to separate system and personal files. Make sure to choose the right location for GRUB in the following screen (usually it is on the same drive like the OS – so if you install BBQ on /dev/sda2, you install the GRUB on /dev/sda — keep in mind that this can be different on different setups, so it is safer to ask on the forums)
Cheers!

I think this will just be the perfect bbq for my new rig…
Glad you like it. I have grown fond of LXDE too in the last weeks. Actually using it all the time, without hiccups. Have fun with your Trolly
I stumbled upon this post while doing what I do best. Well, the only thing I do – Distro Hop. I’ve heard of LinuxBBQ before but that was when I was still afraid of ‘The Matrix Code’ that I’ve often called ‘working with Linux,’ so I stuck with mainstream Linux until none of them were cutting it for me. Unfortunately, worse than not being able to stick to ONE distro I’ve been stuck between two computers that work but they equally have their faults that make computing with any OS intolerable. I’ve switched between my two computers on a daily basis trying to diagnose the issues and perhaps find a Linux distro that puts them into the right shape of things. I was surprised and releived when I booted into Trollinger. The dark colors are easy on my eyes, which are going blind. It’s a lot faster for me than any other LXDE distro that I’ve tried (even better and smoother than PuppyLinux), considering my CPU is always at 100% for some terrible reason. Needless to say, Trollinger is finally something I can work with and have the simplicity, ease of use, functionailty and eye candy that’s just right for me. My heart feels at home. I suffer from severe seasonal depression which has led me to realize hospitalization this time, this year may just be inevitable. But from the look of things summer will be all-year-long while I’m bbq-in’ with Trollinger. Ah, bring in the sunshine! On another note: I am happy to see there is a LinuxBBQ for the vision impaired, may have to try that out too. Thank you! Keep up the cooking. I raise my spatula to you.
Wow, thanks a lot for your comment, you made me quite happy
It’s great to know that Trollinger didn’t troll you, though it has some weak spots (the newest kernel causes some overheating, but this seems to come from upstream, and I am working on a fallback kernel that replaces it). Feel welcome to join our BBS (the forums, that is) and get known of fellow BBQ’ers.
The Linux for Visually Impaired is in the works, by the way, there’s a lot to do, and I am testing different ways to get the stuff done in a way universally usable for both “abled” and “disabled” users. If you have any suggestions for the Visually Impaired edition, please let me know – four bad eyes see more than two half-blind ones… And I really really wish you the best for 2013. I know how depressions can be, so let’s hope they go as quick as the came – and if not, you have definitely found new friends at the BBQ.
My Best wishes to You!
Is this release suitable for a non-pae processor? I love the humour of the dev’s and won’t to give this one a tryout
Hi Karl, yes – the i686 are all non-PAE, so if somebody wants the PAE kernel he has to download them through APT manually. Have fun with Trollinger, it’s also my fave
